Arcass - Passito - Late Harvest

Quick Overview

The name indicates one of the athletic gestures of 'Balon', the most traditional sport in these hills. The Arcass, the 'ricaccio', expresses the indomitable peasant pride, capable of striking back, blow after blow, at every difficulty. It presents itself with a splendid bright amber colour. On the nose, it indulges by releasing delicious and clear scents, with an aromatic prevalence of dried figs, dates, acacia honey and citrus fruits. Harmoniously sweet and fresh in the mouth.
After an initial harvest around mid-September, in which the harvested grapes are used for the production of Roero Arneis Anterisio, 4-5 bunches are left on the vines, which continue to ripen until mid- to late October, depending on weather conditions. Vinification: from October to December, the grapes are left on racks for further drying and, after pressing, fermented and matured in small wooden barrels for at least a year.

Details

We are proud of our roots and our history, starting with our name. It was a tradition among the people of the Roero and Langhe to give people a 'stranome', a friendly and identifying nickname that was used within the local communities. Chicu was the stranname of grandfather Ernesto, founder of the company. From him the nickname was passed on to dad Federico, to us and to our children, to indicate the Faccenda family and its generations. 1950 Ernesto Faccenda bought the first hectare of land a few steps from Canale, in the heart of the Roero. A sausage-maker by profession, he had realised the potential of viticulture in an area that had always had a vocation for wine. He started a production of Nebbiolo and Barbera d'Alba, which he sells in demijohns or as bulk wine. Alongside wine, he grows peaches, the excellence of the Roero hills.
