Rocche di Castelletto - Barolo DOCG

Quick Overview

The wine takes its name from the commune where the vineyard is located: Castelletto in the commune of Monforte d'Alba - Piedmont - South-West, West exposure. Particularly suitable area for the production of nebbiolo grapes for barolo.
During the harvest, which is done manually by specialised personnel, particular attention is paid to the sorting of the bunches of grapes, making two passages for picking, about 6 - 10 days apart. Fermentation lasts 15 days and takes place in small steel tanks with repeated pumping over for adequate colour extraction. Maceration continues even after fermentation, for a total period of 40 - 45 days.
Ageing takes place in Slavonian oak casks of 2,000-2,500-5,000 litres and continues first in steel and then in the bottle. After about 4 years from the harvest, the wine is ready to be put on the market.

Details

We are proud of our roots and our history, starting with our name. It was a tradition among the people of the Roero and Langhe to give people a 'stranome', a friendly, identifying nickname that was used within the local communities. Chicu was the stranname of grandfather Ernesto, founder of the company. From him, the nickname was passed on to Dad Federico, to us and to our children, indicating the Faccenda family and its generations. 1950 Ernesto Faccenda bought the first hectare of land a few steps from Canale, in the heart of the Roero. A sausage-maker by profession, he had realised the potential of viticulture in an area that had always had a vocation for wine. He started a production of Nebbiolo and Barbera d'Alba, which he sells in demijohns or as bulk wine. Alongside wine, he cultivates peaches, the excellence of the Roero hills.
